Dr Shehan
MD · Integrative Medicine Physician · Malta
One physician. Three traditions.
One coherent clinical mind.
Dr Shehan's journey into medicine began with a deep dissatisfaction — not with medicine itself, but with medicine as practised. The realisation that the human body is far more complex, dynamic, and interconnected than any single system of thought can fully explain drove him to look further.
While completing his MD in Western Medicine, Dr Shehan began studying Traditional Chinese Medicine in parallel — drawn to its capacity to map the body's functional patterns in ways that conventional diagnostics often miss. He went on to study Ayurveda, recognising its profoundly personalised framework for understanding constitution, digestion, and the deeper roots of disease.
The result of years of parallel study and clinical application is not a mixed list of modalities — it is a genuinely integrated clinical perspective. Each patient is understood through all three lenses simultaneously, and the plan that emerges reflects that complete picture.
Dr Shehan is based in Malta and works with a small number of patients at a time to ensure every case receives the depth of attention it deserves.
"Real medicine does not suppress symptoms — it understands them. A symptom is the body speaking. My job is to learn the language well enough to hear what it is actually saying."— Dr Shehan
Root cause over symptom management.
Every symptom has a cause, and every cause has a context — Dr Shehan seeks to understand both before forming a plan.
The patient is always treated as a whole system and a whole person — not a list of complaints to be individually suppressed.
Lifelong learning is not a virtue Dr Shehan claims — it is a necessity he lives. Medicine advances, and he advances with it.
